ARCHAEOLOGICAL COLLECTION

The Archaeological Collection is situated on the second floor of the Museum and it contains the oldest traces of life in the Ogulin area.

It is the material legacy of prehistoric Japods, an Illyrian tribe, who inhabited the wider area of today’s Ogulin at the time of the Neolithic era, using vivid and diverse landscape as a shelter from invaders. The traces of their settlement include jewellery, ornaments and parts of clothing, weapons and tools, fragments of ceramic pots and food preparation bowls, and urns – storage containers intended for the ashes of the deceased.

Moreover, the Archaeological collection comprises exhibits from other archaeological periods – from Prehistory and Antiquity to early Middle Ages, and is therefore of great value. A

part of the collection is owned by the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, and a part by the Ogulin Heritage Museum.
