The recognizable L-shaped layout building next to the Frankopan Castle was originally built for military purposes, to house Krajina offices. It was designed in the spirit of the late Baroque style. In 1870, it was sold to the Ogulin merchant Mucek, who turned it into a hotel, which it remained until today, but it was renamed from “Kapela” (remembered by older generations) to “Frankopan”, the name it still bears today.

The Hotel building housed a cinema and a town reading room at the beginning of the 20th century, and was thoroughly renovated in 2007 when the existing Heritage Hotel Frankopan was opened.

The hotel is located at the beginning of today’s Ivan Goran Kovačić Street, which in the past was called Mucekova Street and was known for its numerous craft shops.

At the corner of the Square and today’s Hotel Frankopan, there was the Ogulin linden tree, the circumference of which was over 5 meters. This tree was said to be as old as the Ogulin fortress. During the time of the Vojna krajina (Military Frontier), military orders were read to the soldiers of the Ogulin Regiment and local news were exchanged under the linden.
